Chi siamo
We are a non-profit association founded in Modena on 22 July 2019 by researchers, clinicians, patients and patients' families to promote research and treatment of epidermolysis bullosa and rare diseases of the epithelial lining that can potentially be treated with advanced therapies based on epithelial stem cells.
Le ali di Camilla was created to provide various forms of support to both institutions (the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the Modena University Hospital) and patients. It is open not only to butterfly children but also to other patients who may be treated in the future in Modena with cell and/or gene therapies developed by the Stefano Ferrari Centre for Regenerative Medicine, including patients suffering from Empty Nose Syndrome.
Here you can learn more about our history.

Where does our name come from?
Camilla is the name of two little butterfly girls, both born in December 2017 and who flew away in 2018. We followed them in Modena from birth and became very fond of them.
Camilla is also the name of a butterfly (Limenitis Camilla) that inspired us to create our logo..
Our founding members
On this page, you can learn about the 11 people who believed in the project and contributed their skills and energy to found the association, which we named after little Camilla. They represents, as a sort of synecdoche, all the patients who need and will need our help.
