About us
Le ali di Camilla (Camilla's Wings) is a non-profit association founded in Modena on 22 July 2019 by researchers, clinicians, patients and patients' families to promote research and treatment of epidermolysis bullosa and other rare diseases of the epithelial lining that can potentially be treated with advanced therapies based on epithelial stem cells.
Le ali di Camilla was created to provide various forms of support to both institutions (the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the Modena University Hospital) and patients. It is open not only to butterfly children but also to other patients who may be treated in Modena in the future with cell and/or gene therapies developed by the Stefano Ferrari Centre for Regenerative Medicine , including patients suffering from Empty Nose Syndrome.
Our vision
Embracing Edward Lorenz's butterfly effect theory, according to which the flapping of a butterfly's wings in Brazil can cause a tornado in Texas, we like to think that thanks to the wings of solidarity, a little help in Modena can change the life of a patient on the other side of the world.
Research Articles
"What I encourage people to do, whenever I have the opportunity, is to come and meet us in person, not just me, but also everyone else who is affected by one disease or another, because it is thanks to this encounter that we can truly dispel certain clichés and consequently support research, because without it, it is impossible to find an antidote capable of physically improving our daily lives."
